2024 has come, Flutter 3.19 has also been released , the Flutter official team has also released the plan for 2024, and with the release of 3.19, Impeller has supported Android OpenGL preview on the Android platform. With the improvement of Impeller’s quality and performance, Impeller will have a major plan change:

• This year, Flutter Team plans to remove support for Skia on iOS, completing the full migration from iOS to Impeller ;
• On Android, Impeller is expected to complete support for Vulkan and OpenGLES this year, with the goal of completely abandoning the use of Skia

It seems that this year Impeller is expected to reach the usable height of Flutter’s original Skia. In addition, abandoning Skia can also reduce the problem of regression in production. For developers, if they have not yet switched to Impeller, this is a major upgrade challenge.

In addition, regarding the continued support of Material 3, it is also one of the plans for 2024. Starting from 3.16, it is Material 3 default (M3). Starting from 3.16, useMaterial3in MaterialAppwill be true by default, but you can directly use useMaterial3: falseto turn it off.
