Rust Foundation’s CEO Calls for More Contributors, Discusses Challenges and Initiatives, Google Invests $1 Million in C++ Interoperability
During an interview at an event held in London, Dr. Rebecca Rumbul, the Executive Director and CEO of the Rust Foundation, emphasized the need for more maintainers and contributors within the Rust ecosystem.
Rumbul highlighted the necessity for additional maintainers and contributors, stressing that while there are remarkable individuals within the Rust community who have contributed significantly, it’s unsustainable to rely solely on them. She emphasized the importance of diversifying skill sets, stating that open source projects often lack individuals skilled in organization and project management, skills that are essential for sustainable development.
Regarding addressing this gap, the foundation has taken measures, albeit insufficient in quantity. Efforts have been made to promote and incentivize individuals interested in becoming maintainers, including offering scholarships and guidance. This year, to attract more participants, the foundation joined the Google Summer of Code for the first time.
Collaboration with colleges, universities, and training institutions is also sought to offer relevant courses and guidance for aspiring contributors, which is perceived as highly beneficial.
