Can Microsoft Windows on ARM succeed? And they say they want to compete with Apple just because of a translation layer?

Microsoft announced new Surface devices (Surface Laptop and Surface Pro) at the Build 2024 developer conference, both of which are consumer laptops based on Arm architecture chips.

The new Surface devices are powered by Qualcomm’s Arm-based Snapdragon X Elite processor , which claims to outperform the MacBook Air in terms of multithreading performance and battery life.

At Build 2024, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella proposed “Copilot + PC “ and called it “the fastest and most AI-friendly PC ever.”

Yusuf Mehdi, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of the Consumer Category at Microsoft, added that this is their new Windows PC category designed specifically for AI experiences: Windows 11 AI PC.

More specifically, it should be Windows on Arm (WoA () ) AI PC .

Yusuf Mehdi compared Windows 11 AI PC with Apple Mac, stating that it is “58% faster than the most advanced MacBook Air equipped with M3 processor. All (PCs) are equipped with a battery that can last all day.”
